FAERY FOLK
(R) DOLLS BORN FROM RUSSIAN LEGEND
Royal Romanov Escaped Bolshevik Revolution To Inspire Toymaker-Granddaughter
With Faery Tales |
It’s not often that toys are born from legend, but The Legends
of the Faery Folk (R) have a remarkable story to tell that’s
three generations in the making. As a nine year-old in 1917, Prince
Vasili Romanov (grandson of Tsar Alexander the Third and nephew of
Tsar Nicholas the Second) was one of the few of the royal Russian
family that escaped the bloody Bolshevik Revolution. He enchanted
his granddaughter Tatiana with magical stories of the Domovoi
(Russian household Faeries) during his later years living in San Francisco,
CA. Tatiana, now a mother of two, fulfills a lifelong dream with The
Faery Folk (R), a line of realistic fairy dolls that premier
in the gift market at this year’s San Francisco Gift Fair.
“I hope to inspire a generation of children in the same way
my grandfather inspired me,” says Tatiana Romanov, who is also
a mother of two. “Creative inspiration is at the heart of our
product and touched every element of our design process.”
Tatiana took nearly six years and great care to develop the line of
fairy toys. Each collectible fairy doll comes with a craft project
that parents can create with their child, and the official Web site
(www.theFaeryFolk.com) lets parents and children engage in the characters’
interwoven histories and learn more about the magical stories and
forests of the Faery Folk world.
“As a parent with young children, I wanted not just to introduce
a wholesome, imaginative toy for five- to ten-year olds, but to communicate
a positive environmental message that children can feel inspired to
act upon,” says Romanov. “The faery world, like our planet,
is an endangered place. But each of us—including each child—is
empowered to make a difference to improve our world. That’s
the message of The Faery Folk (R)- save the forest and you
save a faery!”
Faery stories derive from every culture and from every corner of the
globe, and they live in a world without borders. In this parallel
world, where things are seemingly small, there exist infinite possibilities
for big adventures.
“Children deserve the opportunity to let their imaginations
lift off and soar,” says Romanov, “and the magical lure
of The Faery Folk (R) encourages children to interact with
nature in their own backyards. They are small beings that, like children,
have immense power from a small place.”
Faery Folk dolls (R) are exciting to children because they
are visually unique, mysterious, and beautiful. They are not scaled-down,
caricatured versions of adult figures like other fairy toys on the
market, but unique individuals that children can naturally relate
to.
“Every child believes that magic, in some form, exists in the
world,” says Charles Erdman, co-founder of Dervish Media and
Toys. “Just as the Harry Potter series brought magic
back to story, we hope The Faery Folk will bring magic back to play.”
Inspired by countless faery and folk tales from around the world,
The Legends of The Faery Folk (R) line launches this May
with six visually unique dolls that span a range of cultures. Each
doll comes with a booklet that tells its personal story, and contains
a craft project that child and parent can create together. The Faery
Folk stories are updated on their website (www.TheFaeryFolk.com),
so parents can easily download, print, and read them to their children.

The official product Web site, which will have regularly updated faery
stories for parents and children to read together, is www.theFaeryFolk.com.
